Baptisms
Baptism is a sign of belonging to the Christian community and it is always delightful to welcome a new member to the church! The Baptism Service includes some very serious promises that parents have to make, to follow Jesus Christ and to bring their child up as part of the Christian community. It is our responsibility to help parents to understand these commitments before arranging a date for a baptism to take place. For some families a Thanksgiving Service is an appropriate alternative. It is a lovely service at which we give thanks for the safe arrival of the child, pray for God’s blessing and protection for the child and pray for wisdom, strength and patience for the parents. We encourage all families to have a Service of Thanksgiving, either as a first step towards baptism or as the main celebration of the new family member. When a family contact us about baptism, one of the clergy always visits the family home to explain the process, answer any questions and to begin what we hope is a lasting relationship with St. Paul’s.
